After long time, I think after 3 or 4 months 😯 I gonna write again a technical post. This is how to connect you android to the internet through you PC’s internet connection. I was looking for this and used with few problems after being an owner of android. But today I was resolved all of them and feeding my droid without wasting money for 2G/3G. 😛
There’re lots of resources on the internet about this “Reverse Tethering” and there’re some fake and paid APKs which don’t helps. Especially, to the Sri Lankans! 😉 I have used all of these to endup the “Internet Thirsty” of my loving droid. But, every time I’ve to waste time and pay for Data or go under my school’s WiFi with some afraid. 😆
So that’s why I decided to write about this case perspicaciously.
For this, you would have to use a program for the PC which shares internet and pushing it to the android device through ADB. This’ll automatically installs an APK to your android device which teaches the droid to Reverse Tether. Your android device MUST BE ROOTED and your PC should have suitable drivers for your device.
Hope you know what is Tethering; but I think I must describe it to the new ones. Internet Tethering is used to share your android device’s Data connection to the PC. This is officially supported by android ROMs. Meanwhile, your phone becomes a internet dongle. But here, 💡 we’re going to do its vice versa.
Let’s do the Reverse Tether:
First, you should download and extract the archive of “AndroidTool” software from the following link.
Click here to Download Reverse Tethering Software for your PC
[Link Updated 17/09/2020 to the new version. (3.19) Explanations below could be differ.]
While downloading, you can prepare your android device as following:
Launch the SuperUser app on your device, open its menu, tap Preferences, and uncheck the Notifications check box under Notifications. Then you won’t bothered by the hundreds of Superuser permission requests 😉
Also to let the PC-tool install its APK, turn “Unknown sources” ON. (android: Settings -> Applications)
Enable Debug mode. (android: Settings -> Applications -> Development)
Turn Data connection (WiFi or 2/3/4..G) ON. [You may say WTF?! while hearing this. (LOL! 😀 I’ll tell you later why should you do so.)] 🙄
When the download has completed and extracted the archive you’ll see a executable named “AndroidTool.exe”, Just open it and click “Connect”
You can check “what’s going on?” without being an expert 🙂 with switching to “Debug” tab. You’ll see some blah blahs. The red text stands for errors. So you might have to restart your phone and/or PC-tool or PC till having a good answer. I had to do so with my poor Huawei u8180 and that’s why I told so. 😉 Don’t lost your hopes.
After few seconds you’ll see a request for SuperUser permissions on your phone. Just allow it believing me for this ‘USB Tunnel’ APK. 😀
Time for the “Viola!” will depend on your Android device’s and PC’s resources.
Now your droid buddy have internet through your PC. How cool is that?
The important part is, if you haven’t turned on the data connection in your Android device; some apps (such as Play Store, Google Talk) would say “You haven’t a internet connection”. And you won’t be abled to update apps etc. (Gotya?) 😀
Now feed anytime abundantly your droid..! Feel free to ask me (just leave a comment) anykind of problem/suggestion around this. 🙂
All credits to the creator of this app, I’m just making the way.

Hi, how can I access to my google account without wifi? Because everytime I try to connect, it goes to wifi menu and since I don’t have Wifi connection here……
Nice tutorial
@Cerca: Is that happening even you’re on 3G? Seems the problem is on your ROM. Try updating to a official firmware or to Cyanogenmod.
Thanks for the comment & I’m looking forward to help you in advance.

@fitu: Try clearing all the settings of “USB Tunnel” from Android’s system app management. Check your device is ROOTED correctly. Try with another USB port of the PC or uninstall phone drivers from Computer Management and try connecting again.
Looking for your progress and I wish you to have success! 🙂

@ahmed: Thanks.
I can’t see anything wrong from here. 😮
I too had this case with the Stock ROM of my previous Android, Huawei u8180. Then I’ve to change to Cyanogenmod. At last I got success.
Try Googling about the case more, & try posting on XDA Developers’ forum.
Sorry for not giving the Viola to you. :-/
Could you speak Chinese?
@Nobodyhere: No I can’t. 😛
Works fine
i need some help , i have a zigo android running iCS 4.0.4 , i rooted this and worked without any problems but i had to replace my phone with a same kind of phone but now i cant root the new phone .
@udhayanga: This stuff is not for rooting. Anyway, could you please tell me what steps you followed?
Does your pc have correct drivers for the phone?
What’s the software you used? Isn’t that named ‘Root One Click’?
anwy after resetting i rooted it and no probs so far , i used root by restore by bin4ry but as for drivers im really having a hard time finding them however one of my softwares called go mobile /wondershare recognizes my phone as an HTC devices which is funny
i know this stuff isnt mentioned about rooting but to be able to reverse tether the rooting is a must and most people have problems with that part and also even after following everything i still cant download apps via google play store
@udhayanga: Haha 😀
Please try the options I mentioned to other users. Seems some ROMs aren’t supported for this. I think Cyanogenmod might give a new experience for your phone.
thx a lot
If I enable my data connection, how can I be certain that data traffic is not utilizing 3G and being channeled only through USB tethering? since I have a post paid plan I do not know for sure whether the 3G connection is NOT used. I get a mixed results and unable to ascertain whether the tether is working all times.
@Narayan: Just keep your eye on the Graphs of the PC Softwares. Also in every success case, the Connect button will be replaced with “Disconnect”. In the Debug tab, you’ll see your 3G/Wifi Address changed to “192.168.1.2”
This’ll eat a bit of money in the start. 😉 Let Auto Sync turned off till the “Viola”, and you’ll save that “bit of money” too! 😀
i hav a micromax a 110 canvas 2 n my device is not shown over there………………
@prateek: Check is that your PC have suitable drivers for your device, no other program is using the device and USB debugging turned ON. If everything OK, try pressing refresh button several times.

Hi, I found your article while google for Android ReverseTethering, just wanted to say thank you for the clear instructions and useful Q&A at below. 🙂
@Visitor: Haha! 😀 You’re welcome!
i have a prob. when i connected theres no port name . thats shows ?
@IaK: You mean where?
theres no connection that appears . i cant go surf internet via this android reverse tether .
@IaK: Please check the Debug tab for errors.
Have you rooted the droid?
do i need first 3g . to use thiss ?
@IaK: Yah, you must have a working Data (3G) or Wifi Connection.
if theres no active 3g or wifi ? i have a 3g but its dont have a data . i even cant connect internet .
@IaK: Without such a connection, you can use internet on android with most apps. But for Play Store, that’s a must needed thing.
If you can’t connect even from your android browser Check phone drivers, settings, rooted etc.
i successfuly connected to android reverse tether . but when i try to access web via my android theres no connectivity . then when i looked into android reverse tether. theres no port name/upload/download/activeconnections .that appear .
@IaK: Please keep your eye on the log in Debug tab and find errors which are marked in Red.
theres no mark red . error s
@IaK: Open your android browser and try to surf.
cant surf .
@IaK: Uninstall or clear all cache of USB Tunnel and try again.
how to do it ? what to uninstall ?
@IaK: Uninstall “USB Tunnel” from Settings->Apps.
then wat to do ? nxt ?
@IaK: Try connecting again. Are you sure that your device is rooted?
how to conncect the data connection ,,means packed data connection/
@Ganesh: Watch this video, may somewhat differ with your ROM.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV9Nf58juKs
hmm . i cant see *use packet data in my galaxy s . its show only data roaming/accesspointnames/ roaming . hehe sorry for interupting XD
@IaK: Ah, It’s OK. 😉
It’s nice if I’ve helped you for a Viola! 🙂
I am facing problem in super user rights, installed the super user app, but still facing problem. There is no notification on my device regarding any super user rights. My device has Android 4.0.4 version (ICS), please help me out.
@kakaggarwal: Installing superuser app isn’t means you’ve rooted. Anyway, if you’ve rooted successfully it may ask for permissions.
If you’ve missed the notification or Denied permissions, Open the SuperUser app and look for the USB Tunnel is listed there. Tap on it and ‘Grant permissions’; and/or clear data & cache of the super user app from Settings->Apps.
@thambaru . yes i have rooted my phone .
dude my device dont show in the Tool ????
@Max: Few reasons may cause for that. If you have proper drivers for the phone and your PC detects it, look for the programs which uses your device such as “PC Suite”s.
i enabled data connection and i didn’t get request of superuser permission then what i do
@kartik: Please check again that you’ve rooted successfully and SuperUser app is there. If you’ve missed the notification or Denied permissions, Open the SuperUser app and look for the USB Tunnel is listed there. Tap on it and ‘Grant permissions’; and/or clear data & cache of the super user app from Settings->Apps.
Hi there!
I have internet connection trough the USB tunnel, but most of my apps can’t see the internet connection. The Play store is working fine – i can download and updating apps.
I tried to turn on the 3g connection before the tethering service, but that costing me money, and the apps still won’t see the internet connection. What i can do to prevent 3g connection to wasting my money?
Thanks for your time, and i am sorry for my bad English.
@Boris: Ah, Just turn background-data OFF and turn Data ON. Some kind of apps aren’t supporting this. I’m too facing while using ClockSync. 😉
Hi! Thank you! 🙂
I almost succeeded today – i tried with autosync OFF. 🙂
But a new problem appear, and i don’t understand what its means. Now the apps have access to internet, but after a while the connection is broken.

I’m sorry for those very long posts, and thank you for your time!
@Boris: The problem started from “Access violation at address…..”
I’ve too faced such cases on my previous droid, Huawei u8180. That’s because of it’s performance.
I guess the same in yours’. What’s your phone?

@monit: See, the problem is in between of OSs. Actually, between the devices.
I do guess that your phone mayn’t have good performances for the process. Make more free memory, clear all the cache and follow the steps from the beginning.
k now play store opens but download doesnt start.. also other browsers like opera doesnt work 🙁
@monit: Have you turned ON, your working 3G/Wifi connection?
yes ive my wifi on..
@Monit: It must be a working one. If you afraid to use 3G, just turn off Auto-Sync or Background Data and use it till the software change it to PC’s connection.
NO still not working
Working fine with my rooted Xperia P 🙂 Thank you!
@sd: Happy to hear! 😀
You’re welcome.
i always show adb is unstable kindily provide solution
@Jitendra: Seems another app is using your device such as PC companion etc.
thanks it work! 🙂 but the problem is I can’t download with this metode because my SDCard is connected to pc. any way to fix it? tq before. 🙂
@ellynepain: Great! 🙂
Usually Android won’t mount SD for PC. Seems your ROM is doing so and I think you can unmount it from the notification bar.
if we on the data connection balance get deducted..and its bad
@sumit: Just turn background data OFF and turn back ON after tether succeeds. 😉
Thanks for Sharing it works on my A13mid CDR-King Fp011m, im not sure if the Max download graph
below it has something to do with speed i put mine 600% and so faster than 25% default
Am using a different software to reverse tether on my mobile. But I must thank you for the trick to use google play store by switching on the mobile data connectivity. Now my actual purpose is solved. Thanks a lot.
@Macharla: 😀
If you got success, no problem how you reached. 😉
Actually I used the software (same as your’s. one is for windows and an USBTunnel.apk) in the link
http://www.galaxyyarchive.info/2012/07/reverse-tethering-using-usb.html
Initially your software didn’t worked for me. But I just stopped your software from removing and reinstalling the apk by removing or renaming the apk present in the software folder. Now its working.
And its working great!! Thanks!
Download (any download, even from play store) is possible by switching on the data connection of the mobile and its my real concern, which is possible, as I have already told.
I would like to know how Mr. Ahmed is able to download even without mobile’s data connectivity switched on. It would be 100% perfect, if its possible. Because it may save me few hundred bugs.
Thanks again for this extremely useful software and your cool response’s to all in detailed. Hat’s off to you!
That totally worked 🙂 , but when i enable portable wi-fi hotspot and connect to my mobile by any other mobile , it gets a limited connection or i mean no network access .. which means the other mobile which is connected to mine doesnt read that there’s internet access in my mobile , sorry for that long description but please can u help ? 😀 ps : data connection is turned on
@kimo mj: It must be friend! This is just kidding on android. 😉 So the thing you did must not be worked.
it says it is connected.but i cant surf anything
@karthi: Have you turned data on?
Sir,
I have a doubt…………. Many say ROOTING may turn ur mob into a brick……… how safe is rooting. Because I did all the procedure but i get the notification “ur mobile is not rooted”
@Ramanathan: LOL! IT IS NOT.
Rooting is just getting access to the system. But, if you change something without any knowledge It’ll cause errors. However Rooting will lost your warranty for softwares.
Thank you sir………:)

@Knax: Please put your eye on the log of Debug tab and find for Red Lines. Let me know if you having doubts of them. 🙂
What do you mean by Turning Data connection on wifi? just turning on the Wifi and don’t connect to any signal?
@Killua: I mean, turn a WORKING Data or Wifi Connection ON. 🙂
Hey guy………… I’m having xperia E, Still the android tool shows no devices found. I think my device is not support. My device have 512mb ram, 4.1 android OS (Jelly bean). Give some suggestion.
@Jestin: Are you sure that is the device recognized by the PC? I mean, your PC have correct drivers?
If so, find and kill the software which uses your device (such as PC suit) and disturbs for this. 😉

i can’t download apps from google play…. 🙁
@Praveen: You MUST have a working data connection to start (I mean, to get success on Google Play) the process. If it’s OK, what up on your Debug tab?
does this work on xp (Sp-2)
@amaan: I ain’t tried. Well worked on Windows 7 and Windows 8. According to the requirements I detected, it might work on XP. If not, try installing .Net framework. 😉
it is not downlaoding anything… my internet is on in my android,… what to do now?
@rahul: Is it a working connection? If so, tell me what’s up in the Debug tab. 🙂

@amadeuss: Seems you haven’t turned working (packet) Data connection ON. Have you got the Access Granting dialog box? Tell me about your device too. 🙂
I granted access in superuser when asked about it. My device is Samsung GT-S5570 Mini. System – PAC 22.1.0 | ParanoidAndroid + AOKP + CM10.1 | Source built – 22/06 (custom rom).
@amadeuss: Can’t you browse even with the Stock browser? As I see there’s lack of memory for the process. But let’s try to do something 😉
yes my phone is rooted….superuser is installed and also i have checked it with rootchecker….rootchecker app shows that my phone has root acess
and yes whn i connected the first tym i got the permission granting dialouge box from superuser
@sahil: Look at this line [wifi or 3g card address : “”] which means you haven’t turned ON a working Data/Wifi conneciton.
i did it but whn i put disconnect balance is cut from my main acc.
@sahil: Turn Auto-Sync Off, till you having a success connection through pc. (Just a tip for saving money) 😉
What else you’re facing now?
auto sync is off all the tym…..
is android 4 or above is needed because my androis vrsn is 2.3.6
@sahil: I only tried this on Cyanogenmod in Huawei u8180. Not sure would all stock ROMs are supported like my Xperia U’s.

i didn’t get a port name “Google Play (5228)” and downloading can’t start from play store. is it possible to add a port settings manually??
thanks in advance.
naemu.
@naemu: No, you can’t add it manually. The main reason not to working Play Store is turning no working Data Connection ON. 😉
My droid is rooted and the debug section looks like this and i have granted superuser permission to all requesting apps (due to this). The progress section does not move beyond ‘waiting for connection’ after completing ‘open connection android’. It freezes there after 25 secs. Please help

@Venki: Seems your phone isn’t supporting this due to lack of it’s resources. What’s your phone? 🙂
Arc S. I think its pretty much ‘tetherable’.
@Venki: oho! Why not? 😀 Then ROM matters. 😛
Tried This process on many Roms but when I tried it with Tranquil Bad Seed on my HTC one, after, I loaded the apps on my phone, it cannot reboot. Gets stuck on boot logo for ever. I then have to restore to before I added the USB tunnel and Hack. Any ideas. Worked very well on other Roms but not Bad Seed for some reason. Thank you!
@MedfieldMike: Getting Stuck on the boot logo isn’t any affect from this program. It’s just a fault of the ROM, “boot loop”. 😉 According to the comments I got probably some ROMs aren’t supporting this method. Cyanogenmod is well supported, why you no try it? 🙂
Thanks very much, I have tried all of the Roms I can find just for fun and Cyanogenmod does work well as well although they have moved to 4.3 Android which I am not quite ready for on Sprint. All of the other ROM’s I tried so far until I loaded this ROM worked just fine. I really liked the look and tweaks of this Rom but ran into this strange affliction after I Loaded the app to my phone and downloaded the update for the hack.
For what ever reason, out of the blue, after months of working just fine and not changes to my Cable Internet speeds, the native process- Internet pass-through process on my HTC One on Sprint stopped working and would no longer connect to my PC’s internet connection. My phone displays the connection Troubleshooting message that my firewall is preventing connection but I don’t think that is the case as I turned that off completely and it still would not connect. I never figured out why it suddenly stopped working after months of being fine so I searched for another solution and stumbled across the Android Reverse Tether and although a bit frustrating at times, it does eventually work, at least until I hit the Tranquil Bad Seed Rom.
Oh well, thanks for discussing with me. It is greatly appreciated. Maybe I will figure out how to restore the native process some day Sorry for the run on and one. Again, thanks for listening and providing me feedback!!
Have a great rest of your day or evening!
Thanks to everyone else that posted a reply too!!

As I explained you may turn a working Data connection ON before reverse tether. If you worry about money, just turn turn Auto-Sync and Background data OFF.
Hoping to hear from you! 🙂

Take a look at the debug tab for red lines. Maybe your device is getting used by another software in same time OR no drivers.

Have you turned on a working data connection before reverse-tether?
The important part is, if you haven’t turned on the data connection in your Android device; some apps (such as Play Store, Google Talk) would say “You haven’t a internet connection”………. So what can I do then? I don’t have wifi on my tablet and I wanna use internet from my PC so any idea?
browser (from any brand), another market apps (like moborobo or 1rstmarket) work, apps like maps but no google map work, so the problem is every google apps won’t work.
H..E..L..P..!..!..!
P.S.
sorry for my bad english =)
Yah, it’s so important. If you’re using a wired connection on your PC, and it’s wifi capable, you can make a wifi hotspot from PC (might a laptop) no?
Then use this: http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/ 😉
Note: That won’t work with 3G dongles.
I’m not clear “I don’t have wifi on my tablet” means no hardware support there. I’m sorry there’s no way unless you could put a SIM and get a data connection. Your English is fine! 🙂
Hmm. Look nice but requires rooting which I don’t have and don’t know how to make.
Any thoughts about rooting Samsung Galaxy S3 mini I8190N?
Try this: http://howtorootmobile.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s3-mini/

Thank you! 😉
It seems you haven’t installed the Xposed Installer. Please install it from “Tools” tab, which I explained above as an update. Let me know if the problem persists.
Where cn i get it? (I didn’t need it in my previous rom o.O)
Download the latest version and there’s a button on “Tools” tab named “Install Hack (optional)”. Just click on that. 😉
I’ve tried 3-4 xposed installers 4m different forms( i’ve also tried urs) all of em result in “There’s a problem parsing this package.”
Oh, maybe something wrong with your ROM then. Is it a stable one?
Ya.. its stable.. i usually get that error when i try 2 install somthing which is nt supported by gingerbread.. does xposed supports gingerbread?
Works also on JB. Tell me are you on a wired LAN connection? I can give you another option then.
ya.. i m on wired LAN
Visit https://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
It’ll make a wifi hotspot from pc. Hope your pc is capable for.
1. why i can’t connect to website using a mobile browser (mozilla, opera,uc browser etc) on my handheld after applied reverse tether?
2. due i’m using a proxy server to connect. is any configuration must be applied?
Please check for red lines in Debug tab. You may paste them here for my reference. 🙂
the link is broken dude.. 🙁
Thank you for informing. Will fix it soon. 🙂

My data connection is ON, but still not works with Play Store and App’s update.
i facing problems like as supers user rights what i will do please help me
hi, i am using this at work. will i be detected by our I.T. security for using this reverse tethering?
Also what does upload or download speed tab mean, say, 102313, kb or mb?
I don’t know the procedure of your company rules, assuming if they check your IPs, they’ll notice all you visit. Stay safe 😀
All are in kilobytes.
Thank you, so this means they will not know that i am using reverse tethering program, except for ips the site i visited only.
i am not really sure how our I.T. checks, but for sure it is when network traffics becomes slow. That is why i ask for the upload and download speed unit, i guess if i stay at around 100mb then i will not be noticed. 🙂
All my other online games don’t really connect except this CoC.
Thank you again.
Aha Yes, stay in a bandwidth limit. They’ll never know you’re using this tool unless checking your PC. In common, androids don’t eat Gigas. Happy playing! 😀
so if you turn mobila data on it wont waste your mbs?

In my phone, play store was working with this till about last week. Now it says connection timed out.
Also when I installed all this they told me to install some more apps like Hack Connectivity, Xposed Installer, USB Tunnel.
Can you tell me if these are required or not.
Thanks in Advance
Yes they’re required as they’d make a virtual WiFi connection on your phone and use PC’s connection through it. That’d make the process more accurate. So never hesitate to install them too.
Also Thanks for following my tutorial. 🙂

Now many apps are available in Google play and iOS store that allows Android and iOS devices to share Wifi via devices. I’m using those apps and now many new Android devices are supporting Wifi hotspot and this feature is native to Android phones, also iOS 8 has this feature too. How technology has been changed rapidly, I analysed after reading this old article.
Thank you it was really nice tutorial and it works for me
Glad I helped 🙂
